The Magic of Christmas

There is something truly magical about Christmas. The joy and excitement that I see on my children's faces as they discover their gifts from Santa and check out Santa's finished plate of cookies is priceless. Dramatic Jax exclaimed on many occasions, "Oh, just what I have always wanted." He would open another gift only to say, "Oh, just what I REALLY wanted!"

My only complaint would be for toy manufacturers. Is it really necessary to practically cement the toys into the box? It's beyond ridiculous the amount of time it takes to actually extract the toy from the box. Then, you still have to place batteries in it, assemble, and figure out how it works. For eager five year olds who have to wait their turn, this process seems like an eternity. For a period of time, it felt like all we did was find something lost, or try to fix one of their toys.

The light sabers were a huge hit. Baylor has been practically attached to his. He was so busy with all of his toys that I couldn't even get him to stop and eat. Delaney felt a little left out when the boys were playing Star Wars without her, but she enjoyed her iPod shuffle and other toys. I gave the kids a set of BOB books, which are first readers and she sat down and within a very short time she was reading two of the books. She read for our family later that day and was quite proud of her new skill. The Ward clan came over late in the day and we enjoyed a Christmas dinner and the kids played with their cousins until they were delirious from exhaustion.

I always hate to see Christmas come to an end. There's so much anticipation and then it's all over in a day. But, what a wonderful day it was.
