Taking the Plunge

As we entered the park on Day 2, the Sky coaster immediately caught Rick's eye. You are hoisted up 180 feet, and then free fall for several feet before swinging out. Many years ago, I did this with my BFF on a spring break trip to South Padre Island. While I remember being a little scared, overall it was an exhilarating experience at 21. Fast forward to the age of 34 and it wasn't nearly as appealing. However, my husband for many years has tried to get me to participate in some thrilling adventure with him and after much coaxing on this trip, I finally caved. I told him I would be expecting something big for our anniversary this year! It's amazing how you change over a course of 10+ years. As I stepped out on the platform, fear gripped me and I was near tears. I couldn't believe what I had agreed to. This time it was more of a 'let me live through this thing' experience. I had a death grip on Rick and my petrified look here pretty much says it all.
As we were hoisted up, I pretty much shut my eyes this time around, only opening for small glimpses. I'm sure my husband can't believe I ever did this. He was really good to me and tried to calm me along the way. Here we are hanging 180 feet in the air, where I told him, a Coach purse was in my future, to which he agreed.

After the initial plunge, I managed to settle in and enjoy the experience. It is something I won't soon forget and I am glad this time around, I shared it with my husband. It's often said that love is an action rather than a feeling. Honey, I hope this spoke to you loud and clear this day!

Schlitterbahn

A big vacation wasn't in the budget this year but some good friends invited us to go to the Schlitterbahn, which is something we had actually tossed around. So, last Thursday we set off for San Antonio, Texas for a mini-vacation. After a good day of driving, we were ready for a night out in San Antonio!
We enjoyed a stroll along the river walk in search of dinner. This was the best family pic we could get. The little people were getting restless and ready to eat. I wish we would have had more time to spend on the river walk. Here's the gang after a quick dip in the pool, ready for some real adventure and fun, as we set out to find some slides. On day 1, we visited the old Schlitterbahn and then headed over to the most anticipated ride by the kids, Dragon's Revenge. After an hour and a half wait, it didn't seem to disappoint. Unfortunately, the lines for most rides were long. And on day 2, they were even longer. We waited over two hours for the master blaster. After that point, the kids and adults were pretty much done with standing in lines. The kids enjoyed playing on a pirate ship, and we floated the wave river. We set out to find things with less than hour wait, which was difficult.

This vacation had it's highs and lows. The water park had plenty to offer; However, I was disappointed with the fact that we spent more time waiting in lines than actually enjoying the park. There were lots of water attractions we didn't get to enjoy. Lesson learned...never visit any kind of park during a weekend. On the upside, once again we have made more great memories with friends.

So Big

Delaney and I headed to the mall for a little girl time today. I've been promising her for a while that we would get her ears pierced, so today was the day! I think it hurt a little more than she anticipated. She shed a few tears, but quickly recovered and is now just loving her new earrings. Justice for girls was having a huge sale; we ventured in for a peek and Delaney fell in love with all things "girly". We made our first Justice clothing purchase and I have a feeling it won't be the last. I think our Gymboree days are behind us....My little girl is getting so BIG!

Celebrating the Fourth

July 3rd brought a steady down pour of rain throughout the day and into the early evening. It appeared that the holiday weekend might be a wash out, but the following morning brought lots of sunshine. We attended worship, shopped for fireworks, and then headed to our friends house to celebrate the fourth. The kids were beyond excited to shoot off fireworks. It was a wonderful day with friends, good food, and once again, Troy put on a spectacular fireworks show.

I can't say I really got all that many great photographs but they capture our day of memories. In the future, I need to remember to take pictures of the adults as well.

Drillers Game

We kicked off the holiday weekend with an evening at the ball park with the Waller family. It was an absolutely gorgeous evening and I was quite impressed with the new ball park. The kids suffered from the "I wants..." for a bit but by the 5th inning, after I had purchased dip-n-dot for everyone, they finally settled in to really enjoy the game. Just as the game ended and the fireworks were to begin, a heavy down pour began. We headed for the covered area and watched some of the fireworks before making a dash for the car. I was having camera difficulties so I only got a couple of pics with my iphone.

We Heart Summer

Summer days, summer nights... loving it all.

Summer favorites include... Swimming....a daily occurance, followed by flavor ice, even though they would really prefer snow cones.

Spending time with friends, sleeping in, and in their words "everything we've done!"
Mr. Happy wasn't feeling so happy here. He was being very stuborn.
But, he finally caved and gave me a little of the Jax, I know and love.

With just a little over a month of summer left, we plan to treausre every moment. I can't say that I've accomplished all that much this summer, but I've decided not to feel all that guilty about it. We're all happy on most days so that's an accomplishment in itself.

Summer, slow down....we still have lots to do!

Fifth Night

It has been a gorgeous summer week, with highs in the upper 80's. I could seriously live outside and I wouldn't mind if the weather NEVER changed again. It was the perfect week to finally make it out to Utica Square's fifth night. I have several co-workers who attend every Thursday but since we have our own patio of sorts, it's been a little harder to venture out. But, it was nice to get out, visit with friends, and listen to some live music-even if it wasn't exactly stellar.

Miss Independent

I find this comes with it's ups and downs. Delaney has always had an independent streak since the first time she crawled across the floor to take her brothers their bottles. Yes, it started very early. She's always been the one that I could give a job and know the task would be completed to the best of her ability. Recently, I decided it was time to split bath time. I told Delaney she would be showering in the guest/hall bathroom. She hesitated and then realized this was something special. We moved her own shampoo and conditioner into the bathroom and it was all she could think of the rest of the day. She couldn't wait to shower and bragged to her brothers about her new bathroom. (As if they cared, they will probably be happy for mommy to bathe them until they are old men!) At one point, she said, "the only thing that would be better would be if the bathroom was in my room!" If she only knew how much she will really mean those words one day.

It's been nice to have her shower on her own. She's also decided she's quite old enough to fix her own hair. Blow drying is helpful but she is locked into one style and the only one style she knows, is a low pony tail. Of course she doesn't get her hair all that smooth on top. I've been really trying to let it go most of the time; after all, it is summer! Occasionally, when we have something special planned or just church, I would like her to branch out to another style or at least have it look a little more in tact, I have to really persuade her to let me fix it.
Delaney spends most of her play time, writing and drawing. She's now authoring books with paragraphs, she's written down at least 12 pages of choreography to dances she has made up and is currently working on several fashion magazines. But, the other day, she actually got out her old baby doll, Abby. Since this occasion was somewhat rare, I decided I should snap a picture. She loves taking care of small kids. Wherever we go, she always gravitates towards the younger kids and is a loving mother hen. Of course, we are very proud of her independence and sense of responsibility even if at times, it creates a little parent/child conflict.
